Equipping Women to Leave Poverty Behind for Good.
From Survival to Sustainable Livelihoods for Women
Transforming the lives of artisanal fisherwomen through opportunity, dignity, and resilience.
By distributing durable and locally made fishing tools, we provide support that leads to quality harvest and maximization of profits.
We have cultivated a supportive network of women who learn from each other and lift one another out of poverty through peer mentorship and regular community engagement.
Through our integrated livelihood approach, we have reached over 1,000 artisanal fisherwomen across 8 riverine communities in Nigeria.
Our Money Mata Programme has transformed how fisherwomen manage their earnings and save for the future.
The Story
That Built Our Journey
Enatta Foundation began in 2022 with a conversation that changed everything. Our founder, Mrs Adijat Okuyelu (Mama Enatta), saw beyond the daily struggles of Nigerian fisherwomen and recognized their untapped potential. What started as a seafood export inquiry quickly became a commitment to economic inclusion and intentional transformation.
From the beginning, our work has been guided by what we call the Livelihood Empowerment approach, a comprehensive model that addresses poverty through integrated interventions rather than isolated handouts.
Our Impact in Numbers
Our commitment to sustainable livelihoods delivers real results for women, families, and coastal communities.
Our Vision
To create a future where artisanal fisherwomen thrive as empowered leaders and recognized pillars of food security.
Our Mission
Empowering artisanal fisherwomen to graduate from poverty through co-created solutions that unlock opportunity and build resilience.
Our Partners

Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals
Our work directly contributes to global efforts toward sustainable development. Through our Livelihood Empowerment approach, we address multiple interconnected challenges facing artisanal fisherwomen and their communities.
SDG 1: No Poverty
Our graduation model is designed to move women from persistent poverty to sustainable economic independence. Through integrated interventions that combine asset provision, financial capability building, and market access, we create pathways for households to meet their basic needs without external support while building resilience against economic shocks.
SDG 5: Gender Equality
We empower women in fishing communities to gain financial independence and challenge harmful norms that perpetuate exclusion. By centering women as agents of change rather than passive beneficiaries, we strengthen their voice and economic participation in sectors where they have historically been marginalized.
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
Our programs activate existing livelihoods by providing the tools and market linkages that enable women to engage in productive and sustainable work. We build financial literacy and connect fisherwomen to high-value markets, transforming informal labor into dignified economic opportunity that generates stable income and supports household prosperity.
SDG 14: Life Below Water
Through our initiatives and sustainable fishing practices, we promote environmentally responsible approaches to aquatic resource management. We support eco-friendly fish processing methods that reduce environmental harm while improving health outcomes and income. Our work recognizes that the long-term viability of fishing communities depends on protecting the marine ecosystems they rely on.
