Communities

The project targets 1,900 (one thousand nine hundred) women artisans in eight (8) fishing communities across Lagos. These women, often single-income earners, face substantial challenges in preserving their products and accessing broader markets.

The project is estimated to impact more than 4,800 (four thousand eight hundred) people in 920 (nine hundred and twenty) households. The 8 sites are described below:

Isale-Akoka

Isale-Akoka is a fishing community situated opposite University of Lagos, Akoka and established parallel to the longest bridge in Africa the 3rd mainland bridge along Lagos lagoon Nigeria.

Ilaje-Ebute

Ilaje-Ebute fisherfolks in Bariga originated from Ondo State riverine area; they are mostly found along the Lagos lagoon in Bariga. Both male and female members have the capacity to swim and capture fishes.

Ago-Egun

Ago-Egun is a secluded area in both Bariga and Oworonshoki positioned along the Lagos lagoon in Lagos State. They are mostly Egun-speaking people who originated from the Republic of Benin.

Oworonshoki

Oworoshoki is situated along the Lagos Lagoon, at the foot of the third mainland bridge in Lagos State, Nigeria. Oworoshoki fisherfolks are mainly Ilaje people.

Ogudu

Ogudu landing site is a fishing community located along the lagoon creek that leads into Lagos lagoon.

Araromi

Araromi landing site is a fishing community located along the Agboyi river, parallel to the boundary of Agboyi.

Agboyi

Agboyi is bounded by Alapere in Kosofe local government. It is an isolated island with no connecting bridges to link to the neighboring communities

Ajegunle

Ajegunle landing site is located in the Bogunde community. Ajegunle landing site takes the boundary along Lagos lagoon that runs from Majidun River.
