Ago-Egun

OUR HISTORY

The origin of the Community

Ago-Egun is a secluded area in both Bariga and Oworonshoki positioned along the Lagos lagoon in Lagos State. They are mostly Egun-speaking people who originated from the Republic of Benin. Egun community has a long history of fishing as its primary economic activity whereby only men are permitted to capture fish while the women are permitted to sell both the fresh and the processed. They carry out their fishing activities mostly in lagoons. The residents of Ago-Egun rely heavily on traditional fishing methods using the alligator method of fishing commonly called "AKAJA".
