Oworoshoki Displaced Fisherwomen

Why Oworoshoki

Oworonshoki Demolition

In late 2025, large-scale demolitions in Oworoshoki, Kosofe Local Government Area, displaced thousands of families living along the waterfront. Many homes and small businesses were destroyed, leaving women, children, and elderly residents without shelter or stability.

Reports show that several demolitions happened late at night with little or no notice, forcing families to flee suddenly and sleep outdoors. The crisis has affected livelihoods, safety, and access to basic needs for fisherwomen who already depend on daily income from fishing and processing.

Through this cause, Enatta Foundation is raising support to help displaced fisherwomen rebuild their lives by providing shelter support, recovery assistance, and livelihood restoration.

Life after the Demolition

Following the demolitions in Oworonshoki, which is one of the eight coastal communities supported by Enatta Foundation, life has become significantly more difficult for many fisherwomen and their families. With fishing as their primary source of livelihood, the loss of homes and waterfront access has disrupted not just shelter, but income, stability, and daily survival.

After a delegation from Enatta paid a solidarity visit to the community, we witnessed firsthand the urgent realities these women now face. Beyond the physical damage, the emotional and economic impact has been profound. Families are navigating uncertainty, displacement, and limited resources, all while trying to sustain their livelihoods.

In response, Enatta Foundation is strengthening its support to ensure these women are not left behind. Our commitment remains clear: to stand with the fisherwomen of Oworonshoki, restore stability where possible, and help rebuild pathways toward resilience and dignity.
