OUR HISTORY

The origin of the Community

Ilaje-Ebute fisherfolks in Bariga originated from Ondo State riverine area; they are mostly found along the Lagos lagoon in Bariga. Both male and female members have the capacity to swim and capture fishes. They fish on both lagoon and marine water bodies. Ilaje-Ebute fisherfolks thrive on fishing as a key economic activity. They use local methods of fishing such as canoes, nets and traps.
