Health and Wellness Programme
Health and Wellness (Shock Prevention )
Program Overview
The Health and Wellness Programme integrates health support into Enatta Foundation’s economic work. It recognizes that health shocks are one of the fastest ways households lose income gains.
Economic progress is fragile when health is neglected. Preventable conditions become chronic problems because women cannot afford early treatment or do not have information about warning signs. Rather than treating health as a separate sector, the programme positions wellness as a necessary condition for sustained economic participation.
Why the Programme Exists
In fishing communities, illness often leads to reduced income and emergency expenses that erase months of progress. Many women delay care due to cost or lack of access, compounding long-term risks.
The connection between health and income is direct in livelihoods that depend on physical labor. Yet formal health services remain inaccessible to many women, either because facilities are too far, costs are prohibitive, or women simply do not prioritize their own care amid competing household demands.
Economic empowerment cannot be sustained if health vulnerabilities remain unaddressed.
What the Programme Does
Health interventions are embedded across Enatta programmes and may include health education, screenings, referrals, and targeted support during programme activities.
Rather than running standalone health clinics, Enatta Foundation integrates health touchpoints into existing programme structures. Women receive information about common conditions and basic preventive practices during training sessions and cooperative meetings. Periodic health screenings identify issues early, and referrals connect women to appropriate care.
The focus is on prevention, early detection, and reducing the financial impact of health-related disruptions. The goal is not to replace formal health systems but to improve women’s engagement with them and reduce barriers to timely care.
Who It Serves
The programme serves women participating in Enatta Foundation’s initiatives, particularly those whose livelihoods depend on daily physical labor.
